Michael Carl Timme

Michael Carl Timme, 74, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away comfortably at home surrounded by his family on February 7th, 2025, just a few months after being diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, a highly aggressive form of brain cancer. Michael was born on May 28th, 1950 in Olean, NY. After graduating from Archbishop Walsh High School in 1968, he earned his degree in accounting at St. Bonaventure University. Upon graduating, he moved to Colorado, where his first child was born. He later returned to Olean, where his three other children were born. In 1985, Michael moved with his family to Tennessee, where he earned his Master of Business Administration from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). Michael moved to Nashville in 1990 and recently celebrated 35 years of service to the State of Tennessee, serving as Director of Administration for the Tennessee Advisory Commission for Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR) since 2005 as well as working for the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration, the Tennessee Department of Education, and the Comptroller of the Treasury. Known for his musical prowess, dry wit, wry sense of humor, and unwavering optimism, "Miguel"—as he was affectionately called—left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. As a father, he was always just a phone call away, offering a steady and supportive ear. He always maintained that “When I grow up, I want to be just like my kids.” As a grandfather of six girls, he was sweet and playful, always ready to perform a magic trick or play a good-night song. As a member of Music City’s popular ukulele band, The Ukedelics, Miguel was a wizard of the strings, the go-to solo/chord melody guy as well as a fantastic friend. At work, he was an unassuming cool cat, providing wise counsel, a steady hand, and a quick smile even during the most challenging times. He will be deeply missed. Michael is survived by his mother, Nancy Timme; his children, Ruth (Catherine), Clara (Eric), Anna (Marco), and Carl (Keti); his granddaughters, Ivy, Abigail, Edie, Maddie, Ruby, and Eloise; his loving partner of 8 years, Carolyn Breda; his siblings Patrick, David, Barbara, Stephen, Joseph, Susan, Mark, Marianne, and Christine; and over one hundred extended family members. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Fanny's School of Music, an inclusive space dedicated to music education, music therapy, community programs, and performances. A scholarship fund has been set up in Michael’s name to provide music lessons to kids in need.
