John Wayne Milliken

John Wayne Milliken, 80, of Old Hickory, Tennessee, passed away on June 11, 2026. Born on June 4, 1946, John lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family and community. John proudly served his country as a United States Marine and later as a member of the 118th Airlift Wing of the Air National Guard in the Security Police Division. He also dedicated 35 years to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, where he built a distinguished career serving and protecting the citizens of Nashville. Among his fondest memories were his years as a motorcycle officer with the department’s renowned motorcycle unit known as “The Raiders,” a role he cherished and often reflected upon with pride. Following his retirement from the Metro Nashville Police Department, John continued his commitment to public safety by serving with the Tennessee Highway Patrol as Director of Motorcycle Safety. In this role, he shared his extensive knowledge and passion for motorcycle safety, helping educate and protect riders throughout Tennessee. Above all else, John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jeanie Milliken; his daughter, Amy York and husband Jeff; his son, Steve Milliken and wife Amy; grandchildren Parker Hicks and wife Destiny, Emily Hicks, and Kendall Milliken; his great-grandson, Aiden Orostegui; cousins Travis Huffines, Phyllis Close, Steve Sircy, Larry Milliken; and many other cherished family members and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Windolene Milliken and John Milliken. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Christy with Alive Hospice and the caring staff of The Kempton in Hermitage, Tennessee, for the compassion, dignity, and support they provided during John’s final days. John’s legacy of service, strength, integrity, and devotion to family will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 16, from 12pm – 2pm. The service will begin at 2pm in our chapel with Metro Chaplain Andrew Ivey officiating.
