Jeannette Holland

Jeannette Holland, age 70, passed away May 15, 2025. Jeannette was a proud South Nashville native. She grew up attending Pilgrim Emmanuel Baptist Church and was later a founding church member of Temple Baptist Church. She was also later on a faithful member of Mount Zion and Watson Grove Baptist churches. Jeannette attended Rose Park and Cameron schools. She graduated from McGavock High School in 1973 after helping to integrate the school during her junior year. She later graduated in 1977 from Peabody College with her degree in education. After several years working in various medical professions for both Vanderbilt and Saint Thomas hospitals, she returned to her true calling and became an educator in the Metro Nashville Public Schools system in 1998. Jeannette retired from teaching in 2015. Jeannette made sure to show her love to family and friends whenever she could. She’d always say that “love is an action word”, and she lived that saying out in her daily life. She loved to dance, and you would most likely find her first out on the dance floor. She enjoyed celebrating any special occasion but most especially birthdays. Whether it was hers or someone else’s, she rose to the occasion of celebrating another year of life by traveling, skydiving, horseback riding, eating out with her birthday club, or most recently her 70s themed 70th birthday party. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Rest in peace until we meet again, Mama. We love you all the time. Preceded in death by her parents, James and Nancy Sims. Jeannette is survived by her children, Jontyce (Jovon) Green, Erika Townsend, and Erik Townsend; sisters, Mary (William) Beaird, Janice Sims, and Joyce (Dion) Martin; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Natural Burial services will be conducted Wednesday, May 21st at 11am at Larkspur Conservation in Westmoreland, TN. What to expect at a natural burial: Dress for an outdoor hike and wear appropriate shoes. Use the restroom before you arrive, there is no public toilet or running water. Carpool to Larkspur - parking is limited. Plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of time. Family and friends will be welcomed at the trailhead by Larkspur staff and volunteers. The casket or body will be in place at the graveside prior to the arrival of family and friends. Family and friends will hike up the hill into the nature preserve for the burial ceremony. Words are shared and the casket or body is lowered into the grave by family and friends. With guidance the family and friends shovel soil into the grave until it is closed. Hike away from the graveside and return to your vehicle or explore the preserve. Leave no trash behind. Cut flowers are welcome.
