Diane Wayman Hatcher

Diane Wayman Hatcher peacefully went to her Heavenly Home on November 7, 2024, at the age of 69, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She carried us, she nurtured us, she raised us, she empowered us, she taught us, she guided us, she sacrificed for us, she loved us, and she gave us life. Above all else, she loved Jesus, speaking of Him until she could speak no more. Diane was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Wayman. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, George A. Hatcher; mother, June Wayman; brother, David Wayman (Laura); son, George W. Hatcher (Lorenia); daughter, Elizabeth Hartmann (Daniel); daughter, Caroline Blythe (Christen); and grandchildren Rafael, Io, Leonardo, Andromeda, Oliver, Maxwell, Benjamin, Theodore, Luke, Madeline, Aurora, and Quintin. Diane was vibrant and dynamic in body and spirit. She was quick to laugh and to make others laugh. Her presence was comforting, illuminating, and joyful. Diane never met a stranger and could carry on a conversation with a fence post. She loved nature, especially flowers. She loved to be active, walking every day, hiking, cycling, rock climbing, weightlifting, and doing yoga. Diane loved to travel, before and after becoming a mother. She introduced her children to places and people and cultures around the world as they grew up, ensuring they would have an appreciation for the humanity we all share. As a little girl, Diane knew she wanted to have children. She devoted her life to them, and when they gave her grandchildren, she was elated. In her later years, Diane spent every moment she could loving and caring for her many descendants. ALS slowly disabled Diane over the last two years, but she made the best of each day in spite of losing the ability to be as active as she was throughout her life. Her spirit and her faith in Jesus never wavered. She was cared for day and night by her cherished husband and suffers no more. A Celebration of Eternal Life will be held on Monday, November 11 from 10am to noon at Rolling Hills Community Church, 1810 Columbia Avenue in Franklin, with visitation beginning at 9am. Please wear bright colors and bring a side dish for a shared meal to be accompanied by stories and celebration. A green burial ceremony will be held at Larkspur Conservation at 11am on Tuesday, November 12, at 155 Bear Carr Road in Westmoreland, Tennessee. Please wear comfortable walking clothes if planning to attend her burial. What to expect at a natural burial: Dress for an outdoor hike and wear appropriate shoes. Use the restroom before you arrive, there is no public toilet or running water. Carpool to Larkspur - parking is limited. Plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of time. Family and friends will be welcomed at the trailhead by Larkspur staff and volunteers. The casket or body will be in place at the graveside prior to the arrival of family and friends. Family and friends will hike up the hill into the nature preserve for the burial ceremony. Words are shared and the casket or body is lowered into the grave by family and friends. With guidance the family and friends shovel soil into the grave until it is closed. Hike away from the graveside and return to your vehicle or explore the preserve. Leave no trash behind. Cut flowers are welcome.
