Michael Paul O'Neil

Michael Paul O'Neil, 57, of Brentwood, passed away June 2, 2024. Mike was crazy about hockey. He was instrumental in helping hockey grow in the Nashville area. He was a referee for all generations at the Centennial Sportsplex, and a member of the NHL Off-Ice crew for Nashville Predator home games. He was a graduate of Clemson University. Mike never let cancer get him down. Most of the time he would just joke about it, and it never kept him off the ice. Mike’s determination and fighting spirit kept him around far longer than his doctors expected. His family would like to thank the hospital staff, doctors and nurses that have taken care of him for so many years. They would also like to thank everyone that supported and prayed for their family through everything. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Debi O’Neil; Children, Cameron, Briana, Shelby, and Carleton; Parents, Julie Graham (Barry), William O’Neil (Mary), and Kenny Hawkins (Mickey); and many beloved siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mike's family has chosen Natural Burial at Larkspur Conservation. Natural Burial will take place at 10 AM on Saturday, June 8th at 155 Bear Carr Road, Westmoreland, TN 37186. Use the restroom before you arrive, there is no public toilet or running water. Carpool to Larkspur - parking is limited. Plan to arrive 15 minutes ahead of time. Family and friends will be welcomed at the trailhead by Larkspur staff and volunteers. The casket or body will be in place at the graveside prior to the arrival of family and friends. Family and friends will hike up the hill into the nature preserve for the burial ceremony. Words are shared and the casket or body is lowered into the grave by family and friends. With guidance the family and friends shovel soil into the grave until it is closed. Hike away from the graveside and return to your vehicle or explore the preserve. Leave no trash behind. Cut flowers are welcome.
