Jerry W. Hamlin

Jerry W. Hamlin, aged 74, passed away on July 14, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 9, 1948, the only child of Robert and Elizabeth Hamlin. His family left Kentucky when he was five and moved to Monroe, Michigan where he completed high school. He attended Carson Newman College and Clemson University, before graduating from the University of Tennessee Law School. He was the loving husband of Janis Hamlin for 52 years, the father of Spencer Hamlin (Amy) and Callie Meadows (Eric), and the proud grandfather of five grand children, Hollister, Camdyn, and Meili Hamlin, and McKendrie and Hensley Meadows, and his sister-in-law, Jonet Williams and his nephew, Will Williams (Emily) and grand nephew, Keaton. He has three living uncles and aunts and numerous cousins. Jerry came to Ashland City to practice law in 1975. He practiced with Mr. Jack Boyd until Mr. Boyd’s death. He then had a solo practice until the firm of Lockert, Hamlin and Hamlin was formed. He loved the law, his clients, and the people of Cheatham County. He served in many county positions over the years. Jerry was one of the most positive and joyful personalities you could ever meet. His interests were diverse. He loved studying history, traveling, and people. He was kind, compassionate, and giving. It has been difficult to express our sorrow and deep love for this man who was the cornerstone of our family. We miss his advice, his support for all of our endeavors, and his unwavering love for our family and his friends. Most of all, Jerry’s faith was in Jesus Christ, and he represented that faith well in his daily life. Please be mindful of us as we go through this journey of grief. The cards, plants, and gifts have been an outpouring of love that are comforting and deeply appreciated. Jerry wished for no ceremony. He thought it would be too hard on his family. He was cremated and his remains will be interred with his mother and father in a private family gathering. He wanted the remainder of his ashes to be kept until they could be interred with me. We are so proud that we had this wonderful man as our teacher, counselor, husband, father, and friend. Our hearts are broken at his passing. A celebration of life is being held in Corbin, KY for family on April 1, 2023.
