MATTHEWS, Sally Rippey, 79, of Madison, TN, passed away November 21, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Georgia Rippey and older sister, Betty Jean Rippey. Sally is survived by her children, Will Allen (Wendy) Matthews III, Brandy Matthews and Victoria (Robert) Webster; grandchildren, Will Allen Matthews IV and Emily Rogers; sister, Mary Ann (Sam) Birchett; brother, L. Ray Rippey; nieces, Samantha (Drew) Hunter and Vanessa (Brian) Wagner; nephew, David (Jeniece) Birchett; cousin, Sandra Eddins; 4 great nieces, 1 great nephew, as well as many other cherished extended family members and dear friends. Though Sally always put family and friends before herself, she also led a very active life. The following is only a partial list of the activities and organizations she shared her life with: Litton High School Class of 1958 alumni and spearheaded the start of their class reunions, attended Peabody college where she was a Peabody “Mermaid” synchronized swimmer, Past Worthy Matron for the Jere Baxter Chapter of the Eastern Star, worked for the School Mother’s Patrol for Metro Nashville Public Schools, appeared as “Mrs. Claus” for the Patrol as well as several schools and events, successful saleswoman for school fundraising through Love Joy Fundraising, worked part-time for several years at Western Sizzlin, past member of American Business Women’s Association and awarded the Woman of The Year Award by the Hermitage Chapter, retiree of Metro Nashville Government where she worked with all of the Telecommunications billing, former Skyline Auxiliary “Pink Lady” volunteer where she was a two time Frist Humanitarian Award Nominee, long time member of Dalewood UMC where she served in many areas including the “Super Seniors” ministry, current member of Matthews Memorial UMC where she served as a volunteer through the Christian Cooperative Ministry. Throughout her life, Sally enjoyed sharing her creative talents of ceramics, cooking, event planning, gift baskets and other crafts which was her way of showing love to all of us. Her life and love impacted so many and she will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 9am to 11am with Memorial Service beginning at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Freedom Farms Cat Rescue in Gallatin, TN and/or Nashville Humane Society for rescued cats.
