Richard Ray Campbell, age 57 of Nashville, TN, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021. He was born December 2, 1963 in Nashville, TN to Charles Jones Campbell and Madeline Ray Campbell. “Coach Campbell” as he was affectionately known, was an Honors Mathematics teacher with Metro Nashville Public Schools. A “Teacher of the Year” with Metro, he taught as well as serving as the football and basketball coach at various schools in Nashville, including his alma mater, Stratford, Hunter’s Lane, and Overton where he finished his teaching career. Coach Campbell was preceded in death by his father, Charles and a brother, Charles Michael Campbell. He is survived by his mother, Madeline; brother, Keith Campbell; many extended family members, friends, and countless students whose lives he touched. A celebration of Coach Campbell’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 9, 2021 in the Chapel of Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 and from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday at Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
