Lynn Snyder Waggoner, 90, of Hendersonville, born Aug. 30, 1922, in Knoxville, died on Nov. 20. She was a lifelong educator with a great love and understanding of children. With a year of teaching experience from Knoxville, she began a career of more than 30 years with Metro Schools, working with children as an elementary teacher, a resource teacher, a teacher of gifted children, a consultant and a teacher evaluator. Mrs. Waggoner obtained a bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1944 and later a master's degree and an Ed. S. degree from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. She was a member of Hendersonville Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School and was a part of numerous church activities starting in 1957 when the family moved to Hendersonville from Inglewood. Mrs. Waggoner was an avid traveler, and even after the age of 80 she visited Thailand, India, Turkey, Poland, Austria, Hungary, British Columbia, Hawaii and many cities in the eastern U.S. Mrs. Waggoner was felled by a stroke in March of 2011 and was living at NHC Healthcare in Hendersonville at the time of her death. Her family wishes to thank the nurses and techs at that facility for the kind and loving care they provided. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ben, who passed in 2002, her mother, Daisy Snyder, and two brothers, Sam and Gerald Snyder. She is survived by a sister, Pat Tarver of Knoxville; a son, Benny Waggoner (Denise) of Fairfield, Iowa; a daughter, Jan Shuxteau (Gene) of Hendersonville; a grandson, Justin Shuxteau (Kiki) of Brentwood; a granddaughter, Avril S. Traylor (Matt) of Hendersonville; a great-granddaughter, Carissa Shuxteau; two great grandsons, Mason and Braden Traylor; a step grandson, Eric Nelson; two step granddaughters, Alex Taft (Chris) of Fairfield and Danielle Hauptman (Bruce) of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and their children, Alexander and Emma Hauptman and Joshua Taft. Visitation and a memorial service will be held for Mrs. Waggoner of Hendersonville Church of Christ on Saturday, Nov. 24. Visitation will be at 2 p.m., followed by the service at 3 p.m.
