James Monroe Lawson, Jr., 75, of Brentwood, passed away June 18, 2020, at Williamson County Medical Center. James was born on May 23, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan to James Monroe Lawson, Sr. and Nannie Mae (Ledford) Lawson. James grew up in Middle Tennessee. An Eagle Scout, he graduated from White County High School and Tennessee Tech University. After serving his country with honor in the US Air Force, he worked as a Certified Public Accountant for many years, retiring in 2014 from Maggart and Associates, PC in Nashville, TN. A devoted and loving husband and father, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and daughter, loving on his many dogs, enjoying a variety of good music, traveling around the United States (proudly stepping foot in all 50 states), and cheering on the UT Vols football team (Go Big Orange!). He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Joan Avis (Ziegler) Lawson, Brentwood, TN; daughter, Emma Rebecca Lawson, Brentwood, TN; sister, Kathleen (and Mickey) Sparkman, Nashville, TN; brother Stacy (and Terri) Lawson, Lebanon, TN; niece, Ryan Kathleen Lawson of Mt. Juliet, TN; nephews Samuel Monroe Lawson of Mt. Juliet, TN (US Navy Veteran) and Corey Wayne Lawson of Covington, KY (US Marine Corps Veteran); and a plethora of other loving family and friends. A private, family service with military honors will be held at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery—arrangements by Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home, Nashville, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Peterson Foundation for Parkinsons, Nashville, TN, or a local humane society.
