David H. Adams, 73, of Great Falls, MT and Old Hickory, TN died 16 December 2011 after losing his battle with cancer. He was born on June 21, 1938 in Longview, WA. Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Carl L. Adams, Sunnyside, WA and Mavis Dyer Munkers, Bend, OR. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (LaFevre) Adams, Great Falls, MT and his children, Sabrina Wilburn (Randy) Dixon Springs, TN, David C. Adams, Old Hickory, TN, Andrea Gauntlett (Greg), Black River, NY and Marla Grantham (Barron), Joelton, TN; his brothers, Monte Adams (Bobbye), Old Hickory, TN, Dan Adams (Lorie), Richland, WA; his sisters, Jeanne Szarzinski (Randy), Oxnard, CA and Lorelei Dacus, Bend, OR; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. David was in the first class of the Marine Corps NESEP program, graduating from Vanderbilt with a BE degree and from the Naval Post Graduate School with a Masters in EE. David was an expert on Military Command, Control and Communications Systems and was instrumental in the development and modernization of the Marine Corps Air Defense and Air/ Ground operations. He also represented the Marine Corps in several NATO fora and advised NATO on improvements in tactics, techniques and procedures related to NATO Air Operations, Allied military interoperabililty techniques and NATO-wide Communications Systems improvements. He made exceptional contributions over many years in the development of the Marine Air Command and Control system. His contributions persist today. After retiring as a Major from the Marine Corps, David continued to design, develop and manufacture State-of-the Art Defense systems for the militaries of many nations including the UK, Germany, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Singapore, Thailand, Pakistan, Korea and Japan among others. These systems remain effective today in current operations of these many Allied nations. David's persistence, forethought and exceptional knowledge were the essence of these systems. For the last twenty years, David has been CEO and President of Interoperabililty Systems International in Greece. His favorite past time was exploring Montana (counting deer) as well as summer fly-fishing and fall deer hunting with the family. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 18th, 2011 at 4 p.m. at the PHILLIPS-ROBINSON FUNERAL HOME, HADLEY CHAPEL, 1700 HADLEY AVENUE, OLD HICKORY, TN. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. The family has requested that all donations in David's memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
