HOBBS WONDER, Betty Willene Goad of Nashville, passed away on July 18, 2018
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Franklin Goad and Irene Carlisle Goad Claiborne; son, Dennis Richard Hobbs; Daughter, Deborah Sue Hobbs; and great-grandson, Anthony Patric Best.
Survived by her husband, Doug Wonder; children, Joseph “Danny” Daniel Hobbs, Jr. (Teresa), Keith Franklin Hobbs; Karen Elizabeth Hobbs Suggs (Kevin); brothers, Billy Goad (Judy), and Kenneth Goad (Sandy); 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Betty served as President/ CEO of the Tennessee Credit Union, (formerly Nashville Teachers Credit Union and Tennessee Teachers Credit Union) Nashville, Tennessee, for 40 years. The Tennessee Credit Union has grown from a $1.8 million-dollar institution in 1967 into a $206 Million statewide financial organization with 13 location’s and over 27,000 members. The Credit Union Executives Society named her Credit Union Executive of the Year in 1984. She was also inducted into the Society’s Hall of Fame in 1988. Throughout her career she has been an advocate for the Credit Union movement and has served the credit union industry.
She was a Past President of the Tennessee Credit Union League, she served on the Board of Directors of the Credit Union Executives Society, The Board of the Education Credit Union Counsel, she served as the Director and Trustee of the Callahan Trust for Credit Unions, she was a national and international speaker on credit unions, a member of the Downtown Exchange Club, and a member of the Brentwood Country Club. She also spent 1 year on the Board of Directors for Cheekwood Botanical Gardens.
First and foremost, Betty loved her family more than anything. She loved to travel abroad, she loved flowers and her beautiful garden, and as busy as Betty was she always found time to enjoy a good book.
Visitation will be at The First Church of the Nazarene, 510 Woodland St. in Nashville on Saturday, August 4 from 10AM until the time of our service at 12PM in the Chapel. The service will be conducted by Dr. Kevin Ulmet and Rev. Jack Galloway. An interment will be held at Nashville National Veterans Cemetery.
